Mashimbyi believes Toyana’s experience will be beneficial not only to the Titans ladies team but also to women’s cricket as a whole, and will bring a winning mentality to the franchise.
He’s opened the door for the former Easterns and Lions coach to approach him should he need any assistance with his new assignment.
"Yeah, I think it's exciting to have a coach like Geoff, you know, involved in the women's space. I think his experience, his achievements are well documented throughout and I think you got to think of yourself as a lucky team when you get a coach like Geoff coming into a space," said Mashimbyi
"And I've got no doubt that he's going to make a big difference there. He is a serial winner and I think that's where the Titans are at now. They're looking to really dominate the domestic structures. So I think, you know, for Geoff, I can only wish him all the luck."
If he needs any advice in some way or another, he knows my number, he's got my number. And we've worked together before. So, you know, I'm going to wait for that call."
Toyana himself has been impressed with how the game has grown for women in the last few years, and says the different T20 Leagues around the world have been instrumental in that. He also believes the more South African players take part in those leagues, the stronger the Proteas Women will be.
Toyana says it’s their responsibility as coaches to create opportunities for growth for players and encourage them. He says this will be part of his philosophy in his new job.
