Proteas' star Dewald Brevis on track for IPL return this weekend

Chennai Super Kings coach Stephen Fleming is hopeful South African star Dewald Brevis will feature in their fixture against Delhi Capitals on Saturday.

The Proteas power-hitter has been nursing a side strain and has yet to walk out for CSK in the 2026 edition of the extravaganza that is the IPL. And the franchise appears to be missing Brevis somewhat. While usually the most consistent team in the IPL, CSK have lost their opening three fixtures quite handsomely.

"We hope he is going to be right for the next game," Fleming said on Sunday.

"We have five days between the next game. We have been conservative and hopefully, these next five days go as well as we have planned, and he is ready to go. It's a big loss but we are looking forward to getting him back."

Brevis was seen in the nets at Bengaluru receiving throw-downs on Sunday. After, he joined the team for a football warm-up and appeared in no discomfort.

He last played in the T20 World Cup in India, where he enjoyed consistent and decent returns batting at No.4, averaging 29.57 at a strike rate of 146.

The youngster joined CSK in 2025 from the Mumbai Indians and proved his worth, averaging 37.50 at 180 and smashing 17 sixes.
