MI Cape Town set for Kagiso Rabada decision ahead of SA20 opener

MI Cape Town captain Rashid Khan has remained coy on whether Proteas star Kagiso Rabada will feature in their much-anticipated SA20 opener against Paarl Royals at Newlands this evening.

Rabada arrived back in the country on Monday night following the Proteas Test series Down Under, in which they suffered a 2-0 series defeat before drawing the final Test in Sydney on Sunday.

The 27-year-old paceman is a prolific wicket-taker and key member of the MICT bowling attack alongside the likes of Jofra Archer and Khan himself, but the skipper explained that the decision regarding his match readiness will need to be taken in consultation with Rabada as well as management.

"Well, I think it's a massive decision and it's totally up to the player, and I think at the same time we, as management staff, haven't taken that call on it," the Afghanistan spin sensation explained on Monday.

"As soon as he's back and we see how things are, then I think whatever he feels comfortable [with] and whatever is good for him – we can't take a big risk as well [because] he's a fast bowler.

"So, it will be totally up to him and management staff, whatever they decide, let's see how things go and we'll do whatever is best for him and for the team."

The SA20 kicks off at Newlands Cricket ground at 17:30 this evening, with innovative competition rules stating that final team selections can be made after the toss.
