Lungi Ngidi admits to rookie mistakes against New Zealand

Proteas bowler Lungi Ngidi has made a brutal assessment of their previous performances against New Zealand in their two previous matches, admitting that they made some rookie mistakes against them.

South Africa lost by 21 runs and seven wickets respectively to the Black Caps in this tri-series, and will be hoping for better fortunes when they square up again in the final in Harare tomorrow.

Speaking ahead of that match, he was confident they can come out victorious if they can perfect their game on the day.

"To be honest with you, whatever team plays better on the day is probably the team that's gonna come out on top. We've played some good cricket and we've made silly errors against New Zealand when we played against them, so we do know that it is possible,” Ngidi said.

“We just need to pretty much perfect our game in terms of how to go about it on Saturday but yeah, that's the main thing, it's that, whoever rocks up on the day the best is probably gonna come out on top."

Save for the New Zealanders’ win over hosts Zimbabwe yesterday, the team that won the toss in all the matches at this tri-series had elected to bowl first.

Ngidi gave an indication that they will probably go the same direction again should it go their way, and look to chase on the Harare Sports Club pitch.

"Yeah look the way the wickets have played. I think bowling first is probably the way to go. Even though we did feel in the last game we played against New Zealand that we could have chased that,” he added.

“We had some silly runouts, we had some shots that the guys weren't happy with. So, we didn't feel that we were outplayed, if anything we feel we lost the game ourselves but looking at the conditions currently, yeah, we probably gonna bowl first."
