Before the match, both teams wore black armbands and observed a minute's silence in memory of the victims of the hailstorm in Uttar Pradesh.
After winning the toss, LSG captain Rishabh Pant chose to bowl first, and the decision paid off immediately. Left-arm pacer Akash Singh struck three times in the Powerplay, dismissing Ruturaj Gaikwad (13), Sanju Samson (20) and Urvil Patel (6). Akash also grabbed attention with his celebration, displaying a note reading: "#Akkionfire - Akash knows how to take wickets in a T20 game."
CSK slipped to 52 for 3 in the eighth over before Kartik Sharma and Dewald Brevis rebuilt the innings with a 70-run partnership. Brevis scored 25 off 16 balls, while Kartik played a standout knock of 71 from 42 deliveries, hitting six fours and five sixes to register his second IPL fifty.
Shivam Dube added late momentum with an unbeaten 32 off 16 balls as CSK finished on 187 for 5 in 20 overs.
In reply, LSG dominated the chase from the start through openers Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis. The pair added 135 runs for the first wicket, including 86 runs in the Powerplay.
Marsh led the attack with a blistering innings, taking 28 runs off one over from Anshul Kamboj with four consecutive sixes and a boundary. He reached his half-century in 21 balls and looked set for a century before being run out for 90 off 38 deliveries, an innings featuring nine fours and seven sixes. He was dismissed at the non-striker's end after Mukesh Choudhary deflected a straight drive from Nicholas Pooran onto the stumps.
Despite Marsh's dismissal, LSG remained in complete control. Nicholas Pooran added an unbeaten 32 off 17 balls with four sixes as LSG chased down 188 comfortably, finishing on 188 for 3 in 16.4 overs.
Marsh was named the standout performer for his match-winning 90, which set up a dominant victory for LSG.
