Ireland seamer Jai Moondra set for ODI debut after impressing against India

The Irish will go into the five-match 50-over series in confident mood having toppled India in both matches in the shortest format earlier this month.

Moondra, Ben Calitz and Byron McDonough are the three new faces in the squad for the ODIs for the series against Afghanistan that starts in Bready on 5 August.

A left-arm seamer, Moondra took 2-25 and 3-32 to clinch the player-of-the-series award against the reigning T20 World Cup champions.

"We are particularly pleased to have Jai Moondra and Byron McDonough in the squad," Ireland selector Andrew White said in a statement. "Both players bring different attributes that we believe can have a real impact over the course of the series while Gavin Hoey provides a genuine wicket taking threat through the middle overs with his ability to spin the ball both ways and create pressure on opposition batters."

"From a batting perspective, Ben Calitz's powerful and dynamic approach gives the squad valuable options in the middle to lower order. His ability to change the momentum of a game is a real asset."

Ireland are still missing Josh Little, Matt Hollard, Craig Young, Barry McCarthy, Jordan Neill and David Delany through injury.

Afghanistan have already announced their squad, with new ODI captain Rahmat Shah se to lead the Asian side.
