IPL: Rizvi and Stubbs steer Delhi Capitals to impressive win over Lucknow Super Giants

The Delhi Capitals won the toss and decided to bowl first as they looked to restrict the home side to a modest first innings total at Ekana Cricket Stadium B Ground.

LSG had a decent but cautious start to their innings before Rishab Pant was unlucky to be run out after backing up for a Mukesh Kumar delivery, who touched Marsh's straight drive onto the non-striker's end.

Aiden Markram (11) joined Marsh but did not last long and was bowled out whilst trying to cut a quicker Axar Patel delivery, to leave ball the score at 48/2 at the end of the powerplay.

Promoted Ayush Badoni up the order but he was caught behind by KL Rahul from T Natarajan's bowling after only facing four deliveries to see LS struggling at 49/3.

Next to fall was Nicholas Pooran who was deceived by an excellent Lungi Ngidi slower ball with the score at 65/4 at the strategic break.

The resilient Mitchell Marsh began the ninth over with another huge slog sweep but fell just two balls later after skying an attempted straight lofted drive but ended up being caught by Tristan Stubbs at long off for 35.

Abdul Samad was joined by debutant Mukul Choudhary at the crease as they attempted to steady the ship, managing to put on a 35-run partnership before the latter was outdone by a Kuldeep Yadav googly which got a leading edge for a simple caught and bowled.

Top scorer Samad (36 off 25 balls) was then dismissed by a fine catch in the deep by David Miller after attempting to use his feet against a quick Natarajan delivery.

Ngidi wrapped up the innings with two wickets in the 18th over to condemn Lucknow to 141 all out, with the last three wickets falling for three runs after using impact sub-Shahbaz Ahamad.

In response, the visitors were rocked by KL Rahul's golden duck after slashing a widish Shami delivery into the hands of Moshin Khan at deep backward point.

Nitish Rana seemed to be gaining some momentum before Khan induced an outside edge to first slip to leave the Capitals at 21/2.

Prince Yadav then took over the show, removing Pathum Nissanka and Axel Patel off consecutive deliveries to see the visitors ailing at 26/4, with Khan conceding only two runs in two overs as Lucknow ended the powerplay at 33/6.

Tristan Stubbs (39) and impact player Sameer Rizvi (70) steadied the ship and kept the Delhi side in the chase with a calculated unbeaten 119 run partnership for the fifth wicket, powering the Capitals to an impressive six wicket win with 17 balls to spare.
