IPL: Ishan Kishan set to captain Sunrisers Hyderabad in Pat Cummins' absence

India's T20 World Cup winner Ishan Kishan is set to captain Sunrisers Hyderabad at the start of IPL as Australia skipper Pat Cummins continues to work his way back from injury.

It is understood that Cummins, who missed the T20 World Cup, has received clearance from Cricket Australia to travel to India ahead of the T20 franchise tournament.

The fast bowler is still recuperating following a lumbar stress issue that saw him playing one Ashes Test at home before then missing T20 World Cup.

Sunrisers are in action on 28 March when they travel to take on defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

There is no timeline for when Cummins would start playing in IPL but it is anticipated that the paceman will miss at least the first few games.

Abhishek Sharma will serve as Kishan's deputy, with both players coming off T20 World Cup winning campaigns for India.

Both batters scored fifties in the final against New Zealand in Ahmedabad.
