Gleeson and Ranjane deliver for JSK in New Year’s super over

Shubham Ranjane top scored for the Joburg Super Kings with 50 runs against the Durban Super Giants, in what would later become the most exciting SA20 Season 4 match yet.

JSK beat DSG via the Super Over at the DP World Wanderers stadium in Johannesburg as the two teams provided much drama for the sold out crowd on New Year’s Day.

Ranjane says it felt good to play in such a thrilling game which ended with his team on the winning side.

"Yeah, it's been really great playing in this kind of atmosphere, it's a thriller for me. Coming here to play for JSK is a really great thing for me. We just needed to get that momentum tonight in a super over game, and we got it."

The Indian-American player posted his half century to help his team to a total of 205 in their allotted 20 overs.

He says he had to back himself and trust his partner Wiaan Mulder, as the two combined for a 64-run fifth wicket stand.

"It was quite a difficult game. The wicket was a bit tacky, but we had a plan to play with positive intent, and we just kept on batting and went with the moment."

Meanwhile…paceman Richard Gleeson had to follow up his three wickets in four overs with a true death bowling display in the Super Over, and he did just that as he restricted DSG to just five runs.

With just six needed for the win, JSK used up only three balls to hit two boundaries at the Bull Ring.

Gleeson explained their strategy.

"Going into the super over, it was really simple to try and execute the yorkers, and to try and force them to hit to the longer part of the boundary. It was also important for me to not be too predictable and go to my pace off or short ball option."

Amazingly this was only JSK’s first home game this season after seven days of the tournament already. Gleeson hopes they can get going from here, in front of their own fans.
