England recover from shaky start to seal Test series clean sweep against Pakistan

England recovered from a shaky start to beat Pakistan by eight wickets on the fourth day of the third and final Test at Edgbaston, as the home team wrapped up a series clean sweep.

Chasing a target of 130, Pakistan got off to a sensation start as Mohammad Abbas dismissed Ben Duckett with the very first ball of the day, before the seamer trapped fellow opener Emilio Gay lbw for a duck to leave the hosts tottering on 2-2.

England captain Joe Root and number 3 Jordan Cox then brought a sense of calm to the crease to nullify a fired-up Pakistan bowling attack.

The home skipper did get a reprieve on 26 when he was bowled by Mohammad Ali off an inside edge, but was called back after the third umpire let it be known that the seamer had overstepped for no-ball.

Cox and Root then saw England over line with both scoring unbeaten half-centuries, Cox 59 not oout while his captain was on 62 when the winning runs were scored just before lunch interval.

Pakistan will rue the fact that they only scored 133 all out in the first innings, while England replied with 453 to a big lead into the rest of the contest.

The tourists did improve with the bat second time around, getting to 449 all out, thanks largely to an outstanding 81 from just 63 balls from debutant number 9 Razaullah, to at least give them some hope.
