DSG’s season hanging by thread after defeat at Boland Park

Durban's Super Giants coach Lance Klusener says they have let captain Aiden Markram down, having brought the two-time title winner to Kingsmead ahead of Season 4 of the SA20.

DSG’s campaign hangs by the thinnest of threads at the moment, sitting in fifth position on the standings with only one game to go.

It would take some miracle that involves them winning that final game and JSK losing all of their remaining three for them to make the Eliminator, and Klusener says they have not done what they needed to do as a team.

"Aiden has won this competition a number of times, so he knows how to get it done, and I think he has been outstanding with his contributions, but ultimately, we need to execute our plans and pay more attention to the small little details, and that's where we've let everybody down."

Their latest defeat came against Paarl Royals by six wickets last night, and “Zulu” believes this was down to their own mistakes across all departments. In all fairness, Royals had to sweat for their victory with a record chase of 186 which went right down to the last ball.

While it was indeed a competitive score that they put up batting first, the home side put together a damaging 106-run partnership between Dan Lawrence and Rubin Hermann to win the match. Klusener believes this is where the game was lost for them.

"I thought our combinations were right, and mirrored their selections, but you are always up against it when you face two batters who are getting 60 and putting 100-run partnerships together. You don't take wickets and you can't create pressure.

"But it wasn't through a lack of trying, but on the night, that partnership in the middle decided the game."
