David Miller pledges commitment to Proteas leading up to 2027 World Cup

Miller remains part of coach Shukri Conrad’s plans for now as he’s currently in camp ahead of the ODI series against Australia starting this week.

The 37-year-old says he’s still available for selection whenever the call for his services comes, but is also well aware of the competition for places in the team with the emergence of some young talent.

"I've kind of the last of couple of years wanted to take it year by year as the contracts are annual contracts. So, that's kind of been my situation. As I mentioned my priority's always been South Africa, although I've played in a lot of leagues I've always wanted to play for South Africa and I love playing for South Africa,” Miller said.

“So, nothing has changed, it's just that I've lost my contract so that's pretty much where it stands. I'll still make myself available, so if selected then I'll play. There's obviously a lot of competition at the moment, a lot of youngsters coming through, I'm well aware of that and it's great to have that competition."

Miller admitted that he does harbour ambitions to take part in next year’s ICC World Cup on home soil, having been only a teenager the last time the event was hosted by South Africa back in 2003.

He also says that’s still a long way to come and needs to work hard in the next 12 months to give himself the best opportunity of being in the squad.

"I mean just let alone a World Cup would be amazing but being at home would be something even more special. All the sacrifices, the friends and schooling, makes it so much special,” he added.

“So, it would be a dream come and yeah like I said there's still a bit of time to kind of, a bit of hard work to do until then. A couple of series' and it's just over a year away. So, yeah, a lot of hard work from myself and I just wanna make sure that I'm ready to go and put myself in a position to be able to make the team."
