Ben Stokes prioritizes national duty, pulls out of 2024 IPL

Indian Premier League franchise Chennai Super Kings revealed that Ben Stokes has withdrawn from the 2024 IPL.

The team made a curt announcement on Thursday, attributing the reason to workload management.

"England Test captain, all-rounder Ben Stokes has made himself unavailable for IPL 2024 to manage his workload and fitness," confirmed CSK.

"Stokes, 32, became a part of the Super Kings ahead of the successful IPL 2023. He recently participated in the ODI World Cup 2023, which he came out of retirement for.

"The Chennai Super Kings management is supportive of Ben in his decision to manage his workload with England playing a 5-Test series in India before the IPL and then the T20 World Cup in June 2024."

Earlier this month, Stokes revealed that he is will undergo surgery on his troublesome left knee upon the conclusion of England's ODI World Cup campaign.

This was in the hope that it would extend his Test career, which looks set to resume when India host old rivals England for a five match-test series starting 25 January. The series runs until 11 March, just two weeks before the start of the 2023 IPL.
