Australia's Cameron Green looks to stint in Sheffield Shield to prepare for Ashes

The Perth native has been tentatively reintroduced to the game after coming off back surgery in October. In his batting-only role, he was promoted up the order to the pivotal No.3 position in red-ball cricket.

Green featured at No.3 in his last seven Test matches, to varying degrees of success. He only managed 22 runs across his first four innings, but accumulated 166 impressive runs across his next four outings in what was a bowlers' paradise in the West Indies.

Green is currently running out for the ODI team in the series against South Africa, and India are set for a white-ball tour in October.

However, with the Ashes in mind, he indicated that he may shift his focus to domestic cricket in order to get some bowling overs under the belt before the showpiece in November.

"In the past, it's worked really well when I focused on Shield cricket," the 26-year-old told ESPN.

"So I think that potentially might be the way to go down, especially with working my way back with bowling. Potentially get a few more overs over a few more days might be the best way to go about it.

"I'm not quite certain on what match [I'll return to bowling], but I'm feeling really good, in a really good spot. It's exciting being back bowling at a reasonable intensity. It's been a long road back."

Looking to the Ashes, Green admitted that his performances had not exactly nailed down the No.3 position.

"You never know, I think there's certainly a lot of guys that can fill that role," he added.

"I'm really proud that I was able to do a role up there. But, yeah, wait and see."
