He was left out of the matchday squad for City's 2--0 final-day victory over Fulham - a decision that drew sharp criticism from former Villa teammate Gabriel Agbonlahor.

Agbonlahor suggested Guardiola's treatment of Grealish was "personal," a claim the City manager firmly denied, stating it was a matter of selection. "Of course Jack has to play. He's an unbelievable player that has to play football every three days. It didn't happen this season, or last season either," Guardiola explained. "That's a question for Jack, his agent, and the club. If he stays, it will be fine - he's always fought to contribute."

Asked directly whether he was unhappy with Grealish, Guardiola retorted: "Who said I'm not happy with Jack? Rico (Lewis) was not selected either. James McAtee was exceptional against Aston Villa and Wolves - why not ask me about him?"

Grealish, meanwhile, addressed criticism from fans on social media, responding to a video shared by Agbonlahor. "What do you want me to do? With two years remaining on his contract and reportedly earning in the region of 300,000 pounds per week, any move away from the Etihad is expected to be complex.
