It’s a welcomed U-turn for the player and his camp considering he was nearing an exit in January after failing to break into coach Jose Riveiro’s side until the appointment of forwards coach Scott Chickelday.

Signed from Bidvest Wits when the club sold its status in 2020, Dzvukamanja’s initial agreement was set to run out on 30 June.

His agent Mike Makaab of Prosport International had told the public broadcaster’s sports desk that they were actively looking for a new home for his client, with SuperSport United having shown interest.

But the tune has changed.

“I will be entering into a discussion with the chairman. I did not want to be a distraction before the [Nedbank] cup final. I felt it was important for the players to be focused on an important match,” Makaab explained.

“My plan is to meet with the club and also discuss all of the players that we represent there – even those that are settled. It’s important to reflect and find out if there’s anything we have to do on our side. We are here to assist the club and the footballers.”

Dzvukamanja scored the winner in the final against Sekhukhune United at Loftus Stadium on Saturday night, making it 2-1 to the Buccaneers with virtually the last kick of the game to guarantee a second trophy for Pirates this season.

In January he’d only managed a single game, but shortly after Chickelday’s brief spell, the Zimbabwean international became the first choice striker and has rewarded Riveiro’s trust in him with a total eight goals in 18 games.

It will be surprising if the player does not put pen to paper on a new deal.
