Xabi Alonso's Leverkusen equal Guardiola's Bayern Munich record

Xavi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen have levelled the record set by Pep Guardiola's Bayern Munich after a phenomenal run in the Bundesliga this season.

Alonso's charges are in top spot in the league after winning 10 out of 11 games, putting them two points above second-placed Bayern.

Earning 31 points of a possible 33 has equalled a record haul achieved by Guardiola's Die Roten outfit during the 2015/16 campaign.

Leverkusen returned to a the number one position after a 4-0 drubbing of Union Berlin, which featured goals from Alex Grimaldo, Odilon Kossounou, Jonathan Tah, and Nathan Tella.

"The feeling is great at the moment," said Alonso.

"We have played with a lot of focus and concentration. But there are still a lot of matches and a lot can happen in football and suddenly all expectations are gone."
