'We are sharp and motivated' - Bayern ready to silence doubters, insists Kompany

Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany believes his team are close to their best despite dropping points in their last two matches ahead of Saturday's Bundesliga clash with RB Leipzig.

The German champions drew 2-2 with Augsburg before being held to a surprising 3-3 draw by Viking in the Champions League on Tuesday. Bayern had to fight back in both matches after defensive mistakes and missed chances threatened to cost them.

However, Kompany remains confident that his side are moving in the right direction, pointing to their attacking numbers as evidence of their progress.

"We want to attack," Kompany said. "We have the feeling that there are a lot of things behind the perception of these two results. I have the feeling it is just before we show our very best version."

Bayern attempted 50 shots across their last two matches, according to Kompany, who believes a few improvements could make a significant difference.

"In the last two matches we shot 50 times on goal. If we do a few things better then we are not too far from our very best version," he added.

Bayern currently sit third in the Bundesliga, two points behind joint leaders Freiburg and Borussia Dortmund. Saturday's meeting with Leipzig offers them an opportunity to respond and build momentum before a demanding run of fixtures.

After facing Leipzig, Bayern will take on Arsenal in the Champions League and Freiburg in the Bundesliga. A German Cup second-round tie against Magdeburg will also come before their meeting with Dortmund in Der Klassiker on October 31.

Kompany sees the challenging schedule as an opportunity rather than a concern, with Bayern preparing to measure themselves against some of their strongest opponents.

"These moments that some people think might be difficult we say these are the best moments you can have in your career. If you win these matches then you have created some moments," he said.

"We are sharp and motivated. We look forward to these matches to measure ourselves against the best."

The Bayern coach also praised his players' commitment in training, insisting they are ready to respond on the pitch after their recent setbacks.

"The lads reach the limit in every training session and it is fun to watch. They know it is now best to talk on the pitch."
