The 22-year-old joined Die Roten from FC Koln and has since been part of Bayern squads competing across the Bundesliga, UEFA Champions League and DFB Pokal.
While he has yet to establish himself as the club's undisputed first-choice goalkeeper, his involvement across multiple competitions has reinforced the belief that he could eventually develop into Bayern's No. 1.
Speaking ahead of Bayern's upcoming Bundesliga clash against VfL Wolfsburg, head coach Vincent Kompany addressed questions surrounding Urbig's future role at the club.
Kompany was keen to temper expectations, stressing that there is no need to rush the goalkeeper's progression at this stage of his career.
The Bayern coach pointed to Manuel Neuer as a relevant comparison, noting that the legendary Germany international only became Bayern's established starting goalkeeper at the age of 24.
In Kompany's view, Urbig's age and current position in his development curve suggest patience remains the most sensible approach.
"At the moment, I see the combination of Manu and Jonas as ideal, also for Jonas's development," Kompany said, as quoted by iMiaSanMia.
"Manu has already helped Jonas a lot. Jonas has also already played some very important games, in the Champions League and the cup.
"We've shown that we have faith in Jonas. How the future will unfold isn't on my mind right now. The way things are going now is perfect."
