Vincent Kompany: 'Too early' for Bayern Munich's Jamal Musiala to return

Vincent Kompany played down concerns over Bayern Munich's fitness situation after his side earned a 5-0 friendly victory over Red Bull Salzburg.

The match was used primarily as a preparation exercise ahead of the competitive restart, rather than a full test of Bayern's strongest line-up.

Several first-team players were unavailable, prompting Kompany to stress afterwards that the overall injury picture at the club is not overly concerning.

Joshua Kimmich remains sidelined as he continues to recover from an ankle injury sustained at the end of 2025. Defenders Sacha Boey and Alphonso Davies both missed the fixture due to illness, while goalkeeper Manuel Neuer was ruled out with a hamstring issue.

There had also been hope that Jamal Musiala might make his return to action, having been absent since suffering a serious injury at the Club World Cup.

However, those expectations were delayed, with Kompany confirming that Musiala is not quite ready to return yet, despite his recovery progressing well.

"Some are ill, some are following individual training programs," Kompany said, according to iMiaSanMia.

"That's also the case for Jamal Musiala. If he gets minutes in one of the next three games, we'd be happy. Everything is going positively. Today is just a bit too early."

The absences provided opportunities for several Bayern academy players, who were given valuable minutes and exposure at senior level.

Bayern made strong use of the friendly, focusing on match sharpness, rhythm and tactical preparation rather than simply the scoreline.
