Vincent Kompany praises Bayern Munich players' 'courage' after stunning Real Madrid

Vincent Kompany has praised his players' courage and composure after Bayern Munich edged past Real Madrid in a dramatic Champions League quarter-final clash on Wednesday night.

Bayern secured a 4-3 win on the night at the Allianz Arena, sealing a 6-4 aggregate victory to book their place in the semi-finals. It was a chaotic, end-to-end encounter in which momentum repeatedly swung between the two European giants.

Kompany admitted the match tested his side emotionally but highlighted their belief throughout. "It was a very emotional game," he said. "We had lots of possession and always had the feeling we could score. But Real Madrid are Real Madrid. They are always a threat."

The German side were forced to respond time and again, falling behind at 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2. Each setback was met with a response, as Bayern showed persistence and attacking intent to stay alive in the tie.

"The boys were mentally strong today to recover from setbacks," Kompany explained. "The fans helped us as well. We stayed calm and always felt that our moment would come."

He stressed that such moments were earned through consistency over the season. "You earn these moments by working for them repeatedly," he added, pointing to the team's resilience under pressure.

Kompany also made it clear that performance mattered as much as the result. "What was important for me was that the players deserved to go out there today without fear," he said. "You can't just say that, you have to show it - and they did."

Bayern now move into the semi-finals against Paris Saint-Germain full of confidence, having overcome one of Europe's toughest opponents in a tie defined by fine margins and relentless intensity.
