UJ coach thrilled with Adrielle Mibe WAFCON selection

UJ Ladies coach Nthabeleng Modiko insists she’s extremely proud of their striker Adrielle Mibe, who received the call-up to the Banyana Banyana WAFCON squad.

The national team coach, Desiree Ellis, announced her final squad at the SABC Studios in Johannesburg yesterday, and they jetted off to Morocco today.

Speaking to SABC Sport, Modiko says the whole of UJ and Mibe’s family are fully behind her.

"Adrielle Mibe...What a wonderful story I have shared with her. I've been coaching her and her sister from a very young age. It gives me so much joy and pride to see her earn her way through the ranks, all the way to Banyana Banyana.

"It's an amazing feat, and all of us are beaming with pride," said the chuffed coach.

The 18-year-old came up through the junior ranks and also captained the U17 national team.

Modiko, who has been working with Mibe from the age of 13, says the striker’s late father would have been extremely proud.

"This call-up is the perfect tribute to her late dad, the parents had a dream and a desire for their daughters to chase their dreams, so I'm very excited for her," said an emotional Modiko.

Banyana are drawn in Group C against Ghana, Mali, and Tanzania.

They will play their opening fixture against Ghana, and the former national team captain has advised Mibe to listen to her seniors.
