Gallants drew their final match of the campaign 0-0 against Stellenbosch FC at the Dr Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein, which was their seventh straight draw to finish off the season.
Mathiane says while they were frustrated with the lack of wins, at least they were still picking up points which ultimately saved them.
"I'm quite happy with the performance against Stellenbosch, and we are just going to take this draw and move on. We saved the team because of all these draws and although we were looking to close our season off with a win, we just couldn't."
Mathiane does, however, point to a lack of an out-and-out striker as the reason they could not score the goals to win their matches. He often had to deploy Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo up front in search for the goals, and says they need to invest in looking for a proper number 9 ahead of next season.
"We didn't have a striker in our team so I was using number 10's in the false nine position, which made it a bit difficult for us to convert our chances into goals."
At the back, Gallants conceded 38 goals this season and while that doesn’t make for good reading, Mathiane believes they managed to stop the bleeding towards the end of the season.
He gave credit to their defensive structures and goalkeeping department for steering the club to safety.
