Morena joined the Brazilians from Bloemfontein Celtic in 2016, shortly after Sundowns were crowned CAF Champions League winners under coach Pitso Mosimane.
Since then, the versatile player has become one of the club's most dependable servants, making close to 350 appearances across all competitions while establishing himself as a key figure in one of the most successful eras in the club's history.
The contract extension comes in a bittersweet week for the 32-year-old, who was forced to miss out on selection for Bafana Bafana's FIFA World Cup squad due to injury.
Despite efforts by both the national team and Sundowns medical staff to aid his recovery, coach Hugo Broos ultimately decided the defender would not be fit enough to contribute during the tournament in Mexico, where South Africa will face hosts Mexico, Czechia and South Korea in Group A.
Morena featured in 27 matches across all competitions this season and remains highly valued by coach Miguel Cardoso because of his versatility.
Capable of playing in defense, midfield and even further forward when required, he continues to offer valuable experience and tactical flexibility.
And having already won eight league titles since arriving at Chloorkop, Morena now has the opportunity to add to his impressive trophy haul after Sundowns moved to secure his services for at least another year.
