Swallows and Stellies agree transfer

Swallows FC have lost the services of defender Fawaaz Basadien to Stellenbosch FC after the two clubs agreed a deal over his transfer this week.

SABC Sport can reveal that Basadien has put pen to paper on a two-year contract and will join his new teammates for pre-season in the coming days, leaving the Dube Birds with a void to fill at rearguard.

Basadien managed 18 games in all competitions last season in what was a tough campaign for Swallows, who only retained their DStv Premiership status after winning the round-robin league against AmaTuks and Cape Town All Stars in the promotion play-offs.

The two clubs had been in talks over the transfer and those discussions concluded recently, with confirmation from Stellies imminent.

The Cape outfit have made strides in beefing up coach Steve Barker™s squad after selling defender Zitha Kwinika and Ashley Du Preez to Kaizer Chiefs for a total fee of around R13-million, which they will no doubt put to good use.

Barker has signed five players - Lasse Sobiech, Nhlanhla Mgaga, Vusi Sibiya, Sinethemba Mngomezulu, Sihle Nduli and William Likuta.

Asked for comment, the player™s agent Basia Michaels of QT Sport confirmed there was a club-to-club agreement.

œYes, the two clubs have negotiated a sale agreement. We are still ironing out a few more details but that will be up to Stellies to confirm, she told SABC Sport.

Meanwhile, the Dube Birds have so far confirmed the arrival of Waseem Isaacs, Lindokuhle Mtshali Keegan Allan.

The Kaizer Chiefs duo of Darrel Matsheke and Lebogang Sefako have been training at the Soweto club and look set to join coach Dylan Kerr™s side ahead of the 2022/23 season, which is set to kick off on 5 August.
