Sundowns cruise to victory to deepen Marumo Gallants' relegation troubles

Mamelodi Sundowns pushed Marumo Gallants deeper into relegation trouble after a 2-0 victory in their PSL clash played at the Peter Mokaba stadium.

Thapelo Morena put Masandawana ahead in the first minute while Themba Zwane rounded off the scoring for a comfortable win for the champions.

Gallants are now level on points with second from bottom Chippa United and are only three ahead of basement club Maritzburg United but have played a game more than both clubs.

With both teams being involved in continental competitions this fixture was brought forward, and Sundowns made a quick start to the contest.

It took just 25 seconds for Themba Zwane to play a ball over the top of the Gallants defence and Morena produced a good lob finish.

The early goal would have hurt the home side and they found it difficult to penetrate a stubborn Sundowns defence led by Mothobi Mvala.

The game was put to bed early in the second half when Peter Shalulile saw his powerful header saved by Gallants goalkeeper Washington Arubi but Zwane was on hand to score the rebound.

The win also sees Masandawana now reach 69 points with one game of the league campaign still remaining while they will also contest the CAF Champions League semifinal against Wydad Casablanca.
