Sundowns cruise past Bumamuru to qualify for CAF Champions League

Mamelodi Sundowns have clinched their spot in the 2023/24 CAF Champions League group stages with an impressive 6-0 aggregate victory over Bumamuru.

Sundowns hosted the Burundi champions in Tshwane, holding a commanding 4-0 lead from the first leg last week, and the outcome was as expected.

However, injuries to Lucas Ribeiro Costa and Thapelo Morena will undeniably be a cause for concern as they prepare for the MTN8 final against Orlando Pirates next week.

Mothobi Mvala initiated the scoring within the first 15 minutes with a powerful header, followed by a sensational second goal in the second half from the reigning PSL Footballer of the Season.

He effortlessly eluded his marker before unleashing an unstoppable strike into the top corner, leaving Bumamuru's goalkeeper Nduwimana with no chance.

This 2-0 victory secured a 6-0 aggregate scoreline and marks their ninth consecutive qualification for the group stages.
