The Brazilians went without domestic silverware last campaign, surrendering their Betway Premiership title to Orlando Pirates before ending their trophy drought with a 2-0 victory over the Buccaneers in Saturday’s final.
Speaking to SABC Sport, Motsepe acknowledged Pirates as worthy opponents who kept denying Sundowns, while emphasising the importance of using their latest success as a springboard for further silverware.
"It's a wonderful occasion because this is the one we've been struggling with for the last five years, and credit must go to Orlando Pirates for playing their part and for owning the cup like they did. We knew they were going to push us, so it feels very sweet after seeing all the commitment and desire the players displayed tonight. From now on we are dedicating every trophy we win to Jayden Adams and his family."
Motsepe also applauded the grit Sundowns displayed in Durban even when pushed outside their comfort zone to deviate from their typical style in order to win.
Addressing that true grit element, midfielder Nuno Santos explained why Sundowns had to find a different approach to eventually get the better of Pirates.
"In this specific cup we have always been the chasers, and we knew it was going to be a very tough game and a game that made us go out of our comfort zone but we showed a lot of character and I think we played like a real family."
Santos added he was proud of the team being able to return from the FIFA break and not taking the foot of the gas.
