Steve Barker feeling pressure after Stellenbosch go down to Siwelele

Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker has admitted that things need to change sooner rather than later after they suffered their seventh loss of the league season to Siwelele FC on Wednesday.

Third place finishers last season, Stellies have had a start to forget to the 2025/26 Betway Premiership campaign, and find themselves second last as the halfway point approaches.

Barker says the time has come to do something different to try and turn the corner.

"There's a saying that you can't keep doing the same things over and over and expect different results, so right now we have to find ways to do things differently," said Barker.

"Whether that's just our approach off the field, or coaching sessions, or just selection of the team and formations, we just have to freshen up the team.

"I think this break is really needed, we go into our CAF games next and sometimes people look at that and say, 'Maybe that's the reason why you're struggling in the league.'

"But I want to try and use the CAF to get us going again, and get our belief and positivity back by using that as a catalyst to jump start our league."

With the January transfer window just two months away now, the coach confirmed that he is already eyeing some reinforcements to plug some of the gaps they've identified.

"It's one of those window that you sort of can't wait to come. If you look over the last five or six years, probably three out of those five years we've probably had the best January windows," he noted.

"And we're going to need a really good January window just to freshen things up, improve things and just find the solutions that we need."
