Stellenbosch rise up to fourth after dispatching Cape Town Spurs

Stellenbosch moved up to fourth in the PSL standings after dispatching Cape Town Spurs 3-0 at the DHL Stadium on Tuesday.

Iqraam Rayners, Jayden Adams and Darrel Matsheke were the goal-scorers for the visitors who romped to their sixth victory in 13 league matches this season.

Spurs came into the contest looking to pick up points to make their fight against relegation more bearable but got off to the worst possible start.

Rayners gave Stellies the lead in the seventh minute after the home team lost the ball in midfield, allowing the forward a clean run through on goal before beating keeper Sam Ramsbottom.

Spurs were more energetic after the halftime interval and came close to equalising but Siyanda Msani's effort was well saved by Masuluke Oscarine.

Stellies then knocked the stuffing out of the hosts when Adams doubled the lead just after hour mark as the midfielder showed all his prowess by starting and finishing the move.

The 22-year-old won the ball in the middle of the park, drove forward before picking out Devin Titus on the right-wing. Adams then ghosted into the box before finishing with a header from a pin-point cross.

The scoring was complete ten minutes from full-time when Matsheke dispossessed Michael Morton and calmly finished to put some gloss on the scoreline.

Next up for Stellenbosch is the Carling Knockout semi-final clash away at Richards Bay on Saturday while Spurs' next game is a league encounter against Mamelodi Sundowns on 13 December.
