Stellenbosch FC dedicate 25 games unbeaten run to late Oshwin Andries

Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker says reaching their 25 games unbeaten run milestone on Wednesday night was in honour of the late Oshwin Andries.

The defender died in February last year while still only 19 years old with a bright future ahead of him following his promotion to the senior team.

Barker dedicated the 3-0 win over Golden Arrows at the Danie Craven Stadium in memory of a player who was already a junior international.

"A special number 25 that we are all very mindful of the number 25 jersey so today was a special one. I think again we kept it off with another special performance. I think our last three games SuperSport [United], four goals then five against Polokwane [City] and another three today against some really good teams. One can only give credit and admire and be proud of what the players are doing and the way they're playing and the way we are scoring and creating goals," Barker said.

Barker revealed a conversation in the dressing room about chasing that specific number.

"A couple of weeks back on social media when it was 23 unbeaten, we showed Jayden Adams and then I was just asking, yes that was very nice, I enjoyed it. Has anyone got number 24? Thabo Moloisane said I'm 24 then I said what's after that? Then everybody pretty much knew, Oshwin's shirt is in our team meeting room it's hanging on the wall there and everybody knows the number," Barker added.

"It was just a small reference to, you know 25 is a big number, it's a special number for our club so let's try and get that 25 unbeaten. Let's try and get a big victory at home on the 25th game so I think it turned out to be that way and very special for us."
