Stellenbosch FC beat Richards Bay FC to secure Carling Knockout final berth

Stellenbosch FC emerged triumphant in the Carling Knockout Cup semi-final, dispatching Richards Bay with a commanding 3-0 victory.

Natal Rich Boys' coach, Kaitano Tembo, strategically reintroduced Justice Johnpaul Figuareido to the attack, while the youthful shot-stopper, Philasande Manqele, returned to guard the goalposts after successfully navigating through his matric exams.

The initial stages of the match witnessed a lively tempo, yet both teams grappled to create clear-cut opportunities. Stellies' standout performer, Iqraam Rayners, found himself stifled, an unexpected turn given the team's recent impressive form, securing victories in five of their last six matches.

The first half unfolded with both sides struggling for quality in the final third. Stellies' mentor, Steve Barker, faced an early challenge as defender Ismael Toure succumbed to injury, paving the way for Athenkosi Mcaba to step in just before the half-time whistle.

The turning point arrived in the 51st minute when Stellenbosch broke the deadlock. Rayners lofted a precise ball over goalkeeper Philasande Manqele's head, and Devin Titus capitalized, slotting the ball into the net from close range, giving Stellies a 1-0 lead.

A display of set-piece prowess extended Stellenbosch's advantage in the 69th minute. Fawaaz Basadien's corner arced into the goal area, eluding defenders before striking Anicet Oura on the thigh and finding the back of the net, making it 2-0.

Antonio van Wyk sealed the emphatic victory in the 86th minute. Showing finesse in the goal area, he received the ball, embarked on a forward run, and unleashed a right-footed shot that eluded Manqele's outstretched left arm, solidifying Stellenbosch's 3-0 triumph.

With this commanding performance, Stellenbosch FC have booked a coveted spot in the Carling Knockout Cup final. The stage is set for an electrifying showdown as they await the outcome of the AmaZuku FC vs TS Galaxy clash on Sunday.
