Sjovold fires Bodo/Glimt to stunning victory vs Dortmund in Champions League

Bodo/Glimt claimed a memorable 1-0 UEFA Champions League victory over Borussia Dortmund as Fredrik Sjovold's second-half goal secured a famous win at Aspmyra Stadion.

The Norwegian side responded impressively after suffering consecutive 5-0 defeats in Europe, extending their outstanding home record to 20 wins in 21 matches across all competitions.

Bodo/Glimt started brightly, with Patrick Berg testing the Dortmund defence before Sondre Fet sent an effort narrowly wide.

Dortmund struggled to gain control, and Jens Hauge threatened after controlling a long pass superbly, although his dangerous delivery across the penalty area failed to find a teammate.

The German visitors had a chance to take the lead just before half-time when Fabio Silva headed straight at goalkeeper Nikita Haikin from close range. Silva then struck the post with the rebound, but the offside flag had already been raised.

Bodo/Glimt continued to push after the break, with Andreas Helmersen forcing Gregor Kobel into a sharp save shortly after the restart.

The breakthrough soon followed. Sjovold arrived in the penalty area and finished first time past Kobel to put the hosts ahead and reward their positive approach.

Dortmund struggled to find a response, with Serhou Guirassy seeing a close-range effort blocked as the visitors searched for an equaliser.

Their best opportunity came with 15 minutes remaining when on-loan Arsenal teenager Ethan Nwaneri found space for a header, but he could not beat Haikin.

Bodo/Glimt defended their advantage to secure three valuable points and hand Dortmund their first defeat since losing to Bayern Munich in the German Super Cup.

Both teams now have three points after two Champions League matches.
