Sibisi says Pirates have moved on from Ncanana’s “Pirates is just a name” comment

Just before the end of last season, City gave the Buccaneers a scare when they held them to a goalless draw, a result that almost cost them their first league title in 14 years. 

During the post-match interview, Ncanana said Pirates is just a name. It was a comment that didn’t go down well with the second-oldest team in the Premier Soccer League (PSL), but Sibisi says their focus will be on the game...

"For us, it's water under the bridge. We are just looking forward to play against a good Durban City team, and we shouldn't focus on what happened last season because emotions were high and sometimes we say things we shouldn't say, although it wasn't coming from a bad place."

Pirates’ newly signed striker from Norway, Sebastian Pedersen, has landed in the country, and is expected to be unveiled in front of a packed Orlando Amstel Arena today. Going by Sibisi’s reaction, Bucs fans can look forward to a free-scoring marksman.

"You notice how excited everyone is in the stadium because even our supporters have started doing the Norway viking celebration. We've seen a glimpse of what he is capable of and we are sure he will add value to the team."

Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou made an interesting comment last weekend after their opening 2-0 league win against newly promoted Milford FC, saying he’s learned his lesson from last season about how to integrate new players.

Pirates have won this Wafa-Wafa title, a record four times in a row, and will be looking to continue where they left off. 

However, it’s also youngsters like Kabelo Kgositsile, who have excited the Bucs fans, the former Baroka winger not only mesmerized the rookies last week but made an immediate impression on the Ghost. Sibisi is equally excited by the new arrivals.
