Sergi Dominguez departs Barcelona for Dinamo Zagreb adventure

FC Barcelona have confirmed the transfer of their promising 20-year-old centre-back, Sergi Dominguez, to Dinamo Zagreb.

Standing at 1.88m, the young defender has been a standout in the club's youth system, and the Catalan giants have secured a percentage of any future transfer fee for the player.

Dominguez, who joined Barcelona's famed La Masia academy in the summer of 2017 from Sant Gabriel, earned praise for his composure, positioning, and ability to play out from the back.

Under head coach Hansi Flick, he was given opportunities to train with the first team, making his senior debut in a La Liga match against Real Valladolid. In total, he featured in six first-team matches, including three in La Liga, one in the Copa del Rey, and two in the UEFA Champions League.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, the transfer fee is approximately 1.2 million euros. Dominguez also made his mark with Barcelona Atletic, the club's reserve side, where he played 19 matches this season, scoring one goal and serving as one of the team's four captains.

Speaking at his unveiling as a Dinamo Zagreb player, Dominguez expressed excitement about the move. "Dani Olmo spoke highly of the club and the city, so I have big expectations," he said. "I'm thrilled to be in Zagreb. Dinamo are a club that win titles, and that's why I came here. I want to keep developing, and I believe this is the ideal place for a young player like me.

"I'm eager to join the team and prepare as best I can for the new season."

The transfer reflects Barcelona's strategy of nurturing young talent while allowing them to gain experience elsewhere, with the club retaining a stake in Dominguez's future success.

Dinamo Zagreb, known for their track record of developing young players, have gained a defender with significant potential.
