Saleng’s agent sets record straight on Pirates fallout and Al Ahly rumours

The agent of Monnapule Saleng has dismissed reports that the winger was at loggerheads with Orlando Pirates over money and further refuted speculation linking him with a move to Al Ahly.

After months of silence, Karabo Tshabuse has finally addressed what has been a turbulent eight months for her client, during which rumours swirled about his absence from the Pirates line-up before his recent loan switch.

Saleng has since joined Betway Premiership newcomers Orbit College for the remainder of the season, a move Tshabuse believes can help the 27-year-old reignite his career and put the off-field issues to rest.

"Saleng's mental fitness did not match his physical fitness last season, so as an agent, my job is to look after my client, and it isn't my role to go to the media to offer explanations why he wasn't on the pitch.

"The situation calls for a pause from us to say when we don't understand what's going on, maybe we don't have to kill the guy on social media."

Tshabuse is adamant there was no offer from Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

"There was no contractual issue with Saleng and Pirates, the club and the player brokered a very good deal that helped Saleng do a lot of things like buying property.

"Orlando Pirates cannot be faulted for what the player went through as well, and the supposed Al Ahly deal could not have been further from the truth, because Saleng was not looking to leave, he was invested in the club, but was simply just going through something."

While she acknowledges that the majority of PSL players harbour ambitions to play in Europe one day, Tshabuse argued Saleng felt he belonged at Pirates.

According to the agent, the loan deal to Orbit College is aimed at making sure Saleng is back to his best again.
