Kgaogelo Sekgota enjoyed a dream debut for Siwelele with a goal within seconds of the start of the contest but the hosts hit back just before halftime through Moses Mthembu from the penalty spot.
It was the visitors that took the lead within the first minute when former Kaizer Chiefs man Sekgota found the back of the net with a speculative long-range effort that took a big deflection.
Richards Bay could have equalised soon after when Lundi Mahala rounded the goalkeeper but he missed his opportunity.
Just as halftime was approaching Mahala was brought down in the box and the referee awarded a penalty and Moses Mthembu slotted the spot-kick to level matters.
Christian Saile came off the bench for Siwelele with 20 minutes remaining and sent in a cross for Chibuike Ohizu who headed wide.
Home goalkeeper Ian Otieno then produced a few good saves late on to keep the scores 1-1 until the end of the contest.
