Relebohile Mofokeng sets high bar as Orlando Pirates take pole position

Orlando Pirates attacker Relebohile Mofokeng says consistency will be crucial if the side is to hold onto top spot in the Betway Premiership.

The Buccaneers climbed to the summit over the weekend after a 2–0 win against Durban City at Moses Mabhida Stadium, with the 21-year-old delivering a Man of the Match performance to steer his team over the line.

Speaking to SABC Sport, Mofokeng stressed that there is no room for slip-ups as the title race begins to tighten.

"I think we have been doing well for three months now. So, I think we should just keep on going. What's important is consistency and mentality and if we don't lose that mentality and remind each other that we deserve to be on top of the league table. We just need to keep working hard," Mofokeng said.

Mofokeng missed a handful of games in the month of October and November due to injury but says what’s important is that Pirates kept winning.

"I think the most important thing is that my team was winning and I did want to play but if I can't, then I have to applaud others. So, I think they were still doing well and I only wanted to come back and help them. So, yeah, that's exactly what I'm doing now," he added.

The AFCON-bound star added that shutting out the noise will be vital in the months ahead as Pirates prepare to go toe-to-toe with reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns, focusing instead on quietly getting the job done.

"We take each game as it comes, we don't care who is occupying which position. So, we are only focused on the next game. I think with Appollis [Oswin] and Evidence [Makgopa] it's easier because we all play in the national team, so it's easy to play together because we always train together."
