Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric set to miss Copa del Rey final with muscular injury

Real Madrid midfield maestro Luka Modric is set to be sidelined for two weeks and is likely to miss the Copa Del Rey final.

Modric sustained a thigh injury in the 4-2 defeat to Girona on Tuesday evening and is a major doubt for the Copa Del Rey final against Osasuna in eight days time as well as the Champions League semifinal first-leg clash with Manchester City a few days later.

Ancelotti admitted it is a blow to lose a player of Modric's experience for what will be two high-pressured matches in the space of just a few days.

"He has had a small injury and it depends on how it evolves. I don't know if he will reach the Cup final, we must evaluate him. We are hurt, but it can happen. I hope he recovers," said the Los Blancos boss.

However, the Los Blancos tactician did not appear too fazed as he pointed to having two ready-made replacements in Dani Ceballos, Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga.

"In terms of characteristics, it is Ceballos, but we have different resources, we have very good midfielders like Tchouameni, Camavinga in order to replace Luka," remarked Ancelotti..

"He's a very important player, nobody can replace him in terms of experience in these types of games, but I won't complain, because we have midfielders of the highest level."
