Pyramids coach blasts Egyptian FA for lack of support

Pyramids FC coach Krunoslav Jurcic says the return leg against Mamelodi Sundowns in Cairo will not be a walk in the park after the club were not able to have their Egyptian Premier League fixture moved.

Krunoslav left Loftus Stadium with a huge advantage going into round two of the CAF Champions League final next Sunday after Walid El Karti equalised in stoppage time to secure an away goal.

But the Pyramids mentor has to quickly switch his focus to a domestic fixture against Cleopatra on Wednesday night in Suez, while Sundowns have wrapped up their league fixtures in the PSL.

Krunoslav argues this is the result of a lack of support from the Egyptian FA.

“I repeat, we are alone, we are alone, in all this season, we are alone without any support but I think we are stronger in this situation. We will continue like this and thank you for the question, please, all the people from Egypt, from Al Ahly, please come,” Jurcic said.

“Because for seven days we’re playing for Egypt, we are playing for Egyptian football. My guys deserve support and I thought that the stadium will be full. We have 50, 60, 100 supporters, this is maximum on our matches but please come and support these guys because they deserve it.”

The 55-year-old didn’t only use the post-match press conference to blast the local authorities, but felt Pyramids had again proved they are fast becoming a powerhouse on the continent.

“This is only the first half, we have one more match, very difficult match because we know that Sundowns play very well outside but I want to say is I’m very happy. Congratulations to my team, congratulations to the team of Sundowns because I think that we showed tonight nice football, that all the people that watched this match can be satisfied,” he added.

“I’m very proud of how my players played, especially in the first half. We showed one more time, how we showed in the past in this competition and in the Champions League, lots of times this season, that we have big, excellent character that we can come back after a negative result. Congratulations to my players, I’m very proud.”
