PSL responds to GladAfrica Championship cases

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) prosecutor Zola Majavu has revealed that he has not received any cases yet that could derail the conclusion of the GladAfrica Championship this season, but has not ruled out the possibility of this happening.

Majavu was responding to enquiries from SABC Sport, following allegations this past weekend of two cases which have got the potential to throw the relegation battle upside down.

Should these allegations be proven to be true, Jomo Cosmos who have already been relegated following their one-all draw against 15th placed TS Sporting at Tsakane stadium on Saturday, could be thrown a lifeline.

SABC Sport had learnt that there are two cases, alleged to be involving relegation threatened teams, and these clubs are alleged to have played defaulters in their matches this season. Cosmos who are now on 22 points, separated by nine points with teams above the 15th spot, will be hoping that this case goes their way.

œI was at the PSL offices on Friday and going through some of the cases that are already in front of me. I haven™t received any case that could potentially derail the conclusion of the GladAfrica Championship yet.

œBut that doesn™t mean, there™s nothing. If there™s something”I will still come back publicly and in form the media as I usually do, said Majavu on this matter.

Majavu™s office, receives cases from the football department where match reports and protest or complaints letters are sent to.

Cosmos assistant coach Brice Aka did not sound surprised when asked about these allegations after the game.

œNo, I don™t know anything, I am checking the log and we are number last. So I know, normally we are relegated but now you are asking me that question maybe know something that you want to tell me...(Laughs).

œIt™s painful you know, the brand, it™s a big brand Cosmos, it's known not only in South Africa but outside the country as well, so we wanted to represent it better and keep at least in the NFD and go back to the PSL.

œBut where we are now, we not happy with the situation, but knowing Mr Sono he's been talking to us when we are disappointed he said 'no guys relax' even sometimes we go to play to the games he said 'you not the first team to be knocked out or relegated from the championship or something so relax, go and have fun, said Aka.

Sporting are left with two matches. They are at home next weekend to log leaders and promotion hopefuls Richards Bay FC and finish away to Uthongathi the following weekend. They need to win these two matches and hope that the teams above them, namely Tshakuma Tsha Madzivhandila, Cape Town Spurs and Cape Town Spurs drop points.

In 2021 Sporting were initially relegated after having finished 15th on the log, but they survived after their neighbours Mbombela United were docked 23 points after they were found guilty of playing a defaulter in Eswatini international Sabelo Ndzinisa.
