Pogiso Sanoka eager to make cup history with Siwelele FC

Siwelele FC defender Pogiso Sanoka says they are looking forward to being the first group of players to participate in the Nedbank Cup for the club

The team was drawn against Richards Bay FC in the first round of the competition and will appear under a new name after purchasing the status of Supersport United last year.

Sanoka, who was part of the players who moved from the former Matsatsantsa to the new administration, says it’s a privilege for them to create history.

"It is really a privilege for us to be playing at home in front of our supporters for the first time in this competition, and we are really looking forward to it."

They were part of several all-PSL fixtures in the first round of the competition, and Sanoka says that works better for them. The two teams will also meet in their first game of 2026 in the Betway Premiership this Friday.

Most of the players at the club would have been anxious with the transition from Supersport United to Siwelele, but Sanoka says they have found it to be a seamless process. He adds that the only distraction has been adjusting to the travel, with some of their home games still played in Pretoria while the rest are in Bloemfontein.

"It is not different from what SuperSport [United] was doing, but obviously there have been changes, especially with the amount of travel when we play our home games, which can sometimes drain our momentum. However, everything has been okay."
