Phuti Mohafe targets fixes as Polokwane City eye Downs upset

Polokwane City coach Phuti Mohafe says his side has identified key areas to improve ahead of their clash with log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday.

The Limpopo outfit fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat against The Brazilians in Seshego on Wednesday night, holding firm for long periods before midfielder Marcelo Allende struck the decisive goal.

Mohafe believes his team came close to pulling off an upset and insists small adjustments could make the difference when the sides meet again at Loftus Versfeld Stadium this weekend.

"In the first half we defended well as in the second half except for some lapses of concentration. Even when we changed the strategy to an attacking one, they showed us that you can do better if you continue with it. So it's a matter of going to the field and the boardroom and discuss it with the technical team, on the field with the players and therefore we plan and see which one we can go with," said Mohafe

Mohafe did concede that it wasn’t ideal to play a team of Sundowns’ calibre so soon after they had hosted them but that’s just how the fixtures have been scheduled.

On the midweek defeat the City mentor acknowledged his charges only showed impetus when they were trailing.

When asked about tactics on Wednesday night, Mohafe played his cards close to his chest.

"I can't go through that because I will let the cat out of the bag. But the thing is we just going to work with a cautious approach knowing very well that if we can go 45 minutes 0-0 we then have an opportunity to get them in the second half. This is a team that has played in the last three games."
