Phuti Mohafe excited to finally get Gallants season underway

Marumo Gallants coach Phuti Mohafe says they’re more than ready for their first match of the 2026/27 PSL season, having had to wait a bit longer than the other teams to step onto the field.

Gallants take on Kruger United at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg this evening, hoping for a positive start and to avoid last season’s relegation scare. Mohafe revealed that they also have a clean bill of health ahead of the match at their new home ground.

"As a team we are more than ready. We have prepared well during the pre-season, and we also think not playing against Sundowns has delayed us a bit in terms of testing ourselves. We have no injuries so the team is fit and ready to take on Kruger."

Mohafe reiterated his goal to get Bahlabane ba Ntwa playing top eight football by the end of the season and make them one of the most competitive teams in the league. They survived the drop by a whisker last season, meaning they missed out of the ongoing MTN8 cup competition.

Mohafe says the experience gained at Rise and Shine will come in handy as he attempts to get his new team to a higher level.

"With the experience I have acquired from my previous team and qualifying Polokwane City for the top-eight three seasons in a row, is something I will use to ensure that Marumo Gallants is amongst the best."
