Orlando Pirates favourites to sign Baroka FC right back

SABC Sport can confirm Orlando Pirates have all but concluded a deal to sign Baroka FC defender Tshepho Mashiloane.

The Buccaneers have been linked with the right back from the Motsepe Foundation Championship side for some time now, but talks were progressing slowly, given both clubs had their focus on their respective leagues.

However, with the season wrapping up this month discussions appear to have moved swiftly with the Soweto giants now favourites to land the 23-year-old ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Pirates could be lining Mashiloane to replace Thabiso Monyane, who is understood to be in the final year of his contract at the club.

While Mashiloane has done well for Baroka by featuring in all games with the exception of one where he was suspended, Monyane has seen limited minutes under Jose Riveiro.

The arrival of Deano van Rooyen from Stellenbosch FC at the start of the season was a big blow for Monyane, who only managed 12 appearances during a period where Pirates have amassed more than 40 fixtures.

Mashiloane is only two years younger with less experience, but is seen as a player that can mature over time with van Rooyen and Bandile Shandu ahead of him, should the deal go through, as expected.

Sekhukhune United were also strongly interested in signing Mashiloane having monitored him in the lower division, but the public broadcaster understands Babina Noko have abandoned the chase.

Pirates now look set to clinch the deal to have Mashiloane on their books.
