Nuno provides positive update on Nottingham Forest striker Awoniyi's recovery

Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo provided an encouraging update on Taiwo Awoniyi's condition after the striker underwent emergency surgery following an abdominal injury.

The 27-year-old forward, who collided with the post during the match, was rushed to the hospital and placed in an induced coma before undergoing surgery on Monday. Nuno confirmed that the procedure had been successful, with Awoniyi now recovering in a stable condition.

"The surgery went well, thank God," Nuno said on Friday. "He's under observation and recovering, though we still need to wait for the doctors to clear visitors."

The news has been a source of concern for Forest, with Nuno acknowledging the emotional toll the incident has taken on both the team and the wider club. "It's been very difficult for us all, considering the nature of the injury and the situation Taiwo went through," he added. "But the outlook is positive, and that's a relief."

As for Forest's league ambitions, the draw with Leicester leaves them in seventh place, with two matches left to play. While they've secured a spot in European competition for next season, a top-five finish - and a potential Champions League berth - now seems unlikely.

Forest will face West Ham away on Sunday, with the club continuing to balance their focus on the pitch while keeping Awoniyi's recovery in their thoughts.
