The 27-year-old joins from Juventus just a year after making a 42 million pound move from Aston Villa to the Serie A side. Luiz had impressed in the Premier League during his time at Villa, where he made 204 appearances, scoring 22 goals and providing 24 assists across all competitions. He scored nine goals in 35 Premier League matches in the 2023/24 season before his switch to Italy.
"I am really happy to be here. It's a big club and I am so excited to start with the team and give my best for the shirt and the fans," said Luiz.
Luiz's return to England continues a busy transfer window of recruitment for Forest, who are preparing to compete in the Europa League. The club has spent around 140 million pounds on signings, including Omari Hutchinson (37.5 million pounds from Ipswich Town), James McAtee (close to 30 million pounds from Manchester City), and Arnaud Kalimuendo (26m pounds from Rennes). Earlier in the window, they also brought in Igor Jesus, Jair Cunha, and Angus Gunn.
Luiz originally arrived in the Premier League with Manchester City in 2017, though he spent two seasons on loan at Girona before his five-year spell at Aston Villa. His departure from Villa last year was part of the club's strategy to meet Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) by selling a key player.
Internationally, Luiz has earned 18 caps for Brazil and won an Olympic gold medal at the Tokyo Games in 2021.
He could make his Forest debut this weekend when the team travels to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace, the side they replaced in this season's Europa League.
