Nedbank Cup preview: Mamelodi Sundowns v Maritzburg United

Mamelodi Sundowns have their sights set on a place in the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup.

The six-time winners of the cup competition face Maritzburg United in their last 16 clash at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday.

While Sundowns are flying high at the top of the DStv Premiership with a 13 point gap over second-placed Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United in third, the Team of Choice are currently in 10th place on the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

Sundowns come into this game on the back of a 1-1 draw with Matsatsantsa while Maritzburg most recently were held to a goalless draw with Orbit College.

Speaking ahead of the clash, Downs coach Rulani Mokwena said on his club's website: "We are looking forward to facing Maritzburg United, it should be a very interesting one.

"They are a good team with PSL experience and they have very good players.

"They also have a very good coach who has very extensive experience in this competition and the PSL, so we will have to come well prepared in order to beat them."

Maritzburg coach Simo Dladla is, meanwhile, not looking forward to testing his side against the Brazilians but insists they will give their all.

He said on IOL: "I must say it's a terrible draw for us, looking at where we are and where Sundowns are, looking at everything that they have, the quality that is there.

"But I believe that we have talent and this year we have turned the corner in terms of our performances. I've already benefited from the draw because everyone wants to play this type of game."
