Marumo Gallants ready for Chippa United six pointer

Marumo Gallants will host Chippa United in their penultimate game of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season this afternoon with a top eight finish on the line.

The two teams are currently on 30 points but Gallants have the advantage of still having two games left to play, meaning they have six points to try and secure the top bracket to the Chill Boys’ three.

Marumo Gallants coach Abdeslam Ouaddou knows that in Chippa United they face a team desperate for a win, having not tasted victory in over a month, and losing their last four on the spin.

"We know it will be a very difficult game, especially because Chippa United have lost many games recently, they want to finish the season as best as possible, but so do we.

Since our team secured its safety, we defined a new target for the club, and that is to finish in the top eight," asserted Ouaddou.

Bahlabane ba Ntwa last played competitive football on April 26 when they beat Kaizer Chiefs to secure the club’s top flight status for next season, and coach Ouaddou says they had to find creative ways to keep fit and to be able to fulfil their fixture obligations at the end of the season.

"After our win against Kaizer Chiefs, we had three weeks without competition, but we had sound preparation in some friendly games for our final few matches. My players are starving for a win," said Ouaddou.

The Moroccan coach has urged his players to go out and win their last home game of the season as a way of thanking the fans in the Free State capital, who have shown them loyalty since the club moved to the city of roses.

The last time Gallants won a game at home was at the beginning of March when they shocked Orlando Pirates 2-0.

Marumo and Chippa - along with Chiefs – are all locked on the same number of points and are fighting for the same carrot, while positions eight through to twelve are all separated by just a single point on the log. This makes the three points in this game all the more important, and six in their last two games would help their cause even more.
