Man City chairman reaffirms confidence in financial case

The Premier League charged City in February 2023 following a lengthy investigation into alleged financial-rule breaches between 2009 and 2018. The allegations include claims that the club provided inaccurate financial information, inflated sponsorship revenues involving connected companies and made payments outside its disclosed accounts.

City have consistently denied wrongdoing.

Recent reports indicate that City were found responsible for the majority of the allegations. However, the legal process is not yet complete, with the club expected to appeal.

Writing to supporters, Al Mubarak said City remained confident of clearing its name but could not discuss the details because of strict legal confidentiality.

"The Premier League process still has a long way to run,z" he said, adding that the clubâ™s determination to prove its innocence was "just as strong as when this began."

He also urged supporters to consider City's previous statements on the case, saying the club's position remained unchanged.

No punishment has yet been announced. Potential consequences could include a fine, a points deduction or, in the most serious scenario, expulsion from the Premier League.

Other Premier League clubs are reportedly seeking legal advice over possible compensation linked to the case, while the league has declined to comment on the confidential proceedings.

City have also repeated their criticism of the regulatory process, saying they had expected the Premier League to act independently and impartially.

Despite the legal uncertainty, Al Mubarak urged supporters to focus on the club's upcoming fixtures, including a trip to Anfield and a Champions League meeting with Paris Saint-Germain.

For now, City continue to defend their position as the case moves towards its next legal stage.
